Magnamed is a prime example of the importance of investing in science and technology in Brazil. When we invested in the company in 2009, it consisted of just three technicians working at a bench at CIETEC. In 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Brazil could rely on Magnamed's family of lung ventilators. With the sale of 6,500 ventilators to the Federal Government, the company achieved a turnover of R$343 million that year.

Antera was founded in 2005 to fill the gap in Brazilian seed capital. "Between 2000 and 2004, when I led ABCR (now ABVCAP), private equity and late-stage VC investments were well-established, but there was a lack of capital for early-stage companies. In 2007, with CRIATEC, we were able to put our thesis into practice, and the results have been significant. The concept of startups is now nationally recognized," says Robert Binder, CEO of Antera.

    MEET IEPE, ANTERA'S EDUCATION ARM

    Founded in 2016, the Institute of Education for Entrepreneurs (IEPE) serves as the education arm of Antera Gestão de Recursos. Its mission is to support companies, universities, technology centers, entrepreneurs, and investors by offering training programs focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, business growth, and entrepreneurial capital.

    To achieve this mission, IEPE develops a range of educational initiatives, including:

    • In-Person Acceleration Programs: In partnership with the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business (USA), IEPE conducted two acceleration programs at UDESC and UFRJ Technology Park, impacting over 60 startups. These programs were based on the Lean Startup methodology, created by Steve Blank, emphasizing business model validation and scalable growth strategies.

    • Virtual Acceleration Programs: In collaboration with SEBRAE RJ, IEPE developed a startup acceleration platform, enabling nationwide dissemination of business modeling methodologies and best practices. This initiative allowed for the adaptation of globally recognized approaches to the Brazilian entrepreneurial ecosystem.

    • Investment Funding Course for Entrepreneurs: IEPE is currently developing a distance learning course focused on raising seed-stage venture capital. The course blends theoretical and practical content, covering the key stages of the fundraising process and offering actionable insights for entrepreneurs.
